Gavin Nash and Sandee Boyd – their journey to discovering their passions
Combining Pottery and Passion Since 1989
In wanting and searching for a hobby that would captivate him and fill his desires and passions, Gavin discovered clay and the wheel.
“I found a pottery class and tutor that was amazing and hence my relationship with clay began”, said Gavin.
So, in 1989, his lessons started. Hand building, coil, slab and pinch pots no longer sounded like swear words to him. In due time, Gavin progressed to the wheel. A technique which required many years of practice to master the clay and create something that looked like a piece of Art.
Next Steps
The next amazing step was to purchase his very own Kiln. He started with a gas kiln which was a single burner.
“With gas, many different glaze firings can be achieved, not without lots of trials and errors along the way though”, Gavin explains.
“Developing glazes for my sculptured and bisked pots was intriguing and an enormous amount of fun. Again, the error factor is there, but that’s all part of the journey.”
He attended many workshops on various firing and glaze techniques. These entailed a range of processes such as Wood Firing in Double Bourry Box Kiln, Catenary Arch kiln, Anagama, Raku and Pit Firing. These were lots of fun and built anticipation on what the outcome would achieve.
Joy and Fulfillment
With many years of practice up his sleeves, he is now ready to unleash his huge potential and is now the proud owner of an Electric Kiln and a Double Burner Gas Kiln. Having both modalities enables him to achieve a greater variety of firings using many different glaze effects.
“Stoneware glaze is what I mainly use for domestic wares. Crystalline is my most favorite for a very decorative effect. However, this glaze is very challenging. The results are usually incredible, unique and extremely unpredictable. All of this is why I feel so passionate about my work”, Gavin explains.
His passion for Pottery has become greater over the years. The delight of creating a beautiful piece of art brings him much joy and fulfillment and he just loves to share it with the world.
Over the years, Gavin has received many awards for his art. He extremely enjoyed sharing his skills by teaching pottery work shops.
“Now I am on a new adventure of full-time pottery with my very own Pottery
Gallery. This enables me to devote all my time to my greatest passion – the joy of creating pottery”, says Gavin.
Sandee’s Story
At a young age, Sandee new she liked helping people. After finishing school, she applied to go to Nursing. A few weeks before starting her course, she encountered an injured dog. This experience turned her stomach as she needed to hurt the dog first to help it. Sandee just couldn’t do it and had to ask someone else to. From this, she decided Naturopathy would be far gentler career and proceeded towards pursuing this.
At the age of 21 years, after working in the health industry, Sandee had her first Beauty Treatment. She wasn’t quite sure how, but she was amazed. She felt like a little fresh flower afterwards. Shortly after that, Sandee decided to train as a Beauty Therapist.
After many years of beauty using Clarins, a product that was entirely plant based, she was still exploring all sorts of avenues from Aroma Therapy, Colour Analysis and other techniques to help people feel better about themselves.
“In 2009, after meeting up with a college friend, I had mentioned I was
having a Family issues and she said you need to do this course I’m going to. It’s a One Garden Flower Essence Course”, Sandee Explains.
“She said the flowers she had been using were wonderful and helped her magnetically. So, of we went and whoa! This was the amazing tool I’d been searching for to help people. Something anyone can use with no side effects, including children and animals. Everyone could have it and didn’t cost an
arm and a leg.
I had learned over the years that no matter how many treatments, how much food control or how much exercise, it still didn’t maintain the fresh, healthy look and attitude I was wanting for my clients. My personal experience with One Garden Flowers Essence was a life changing story.
To further enhance the Flower Essence, I completed a Reiki Course with the same creator of One Garden Flower Essence.”
Sandee realised through the flowers that this was for her own healing as
much as it was to help others. She no longer works as a Beauty Therapist and now is devoting her time to One Garden Flower Essence and exploring the wonderful benefits of the amazing creation.
